About Club America

Club America was founded in 1916 by Rafael Garza Gutierrez 'Record'. Club America quickly became popular with four league titles. Since purchased by media tycoon Emilio Azcarraga in 1959 the club became the powerhouse of Mexican Soccer winning another 10 league trophies and several cups including two Inter-American titles. With a combination of Mexican home grown players and international stars America enjoys the support of more than 25 percent of the Mexican soccer supporters. According to a Consulta Mitofsky January 2010 poll, 25.3 percent of respondents selected Club América as their favorite soccer club in Mexico (which has more than 10 professional teams). Club América holds an impressive 10 championships.
